Will Hair Extensions Damage My Hair?
Celebrities have a secret: Hair extensions! How do you think celebrities go from short hair to long locks overnight? While hair extensions had a bad reputation earlier, they’ve come a long way in terms of technology and quality. They are not just for adding length and volume; you can use them to experiment with different styles, like clip-in bangs or strands of purple. People say that they are bad for your hair, but before holding into this opinion, one must first find out if the actual extensions damage your hair or poor fusion methods that are to blame?
The biggest issue with hair extensions is not the extensions but people that are handing them, technique is important. Whether it’s an inexperienced stylists that damages your hair or from super heavy hair sets that do indeed cause scalp pain/ headaches and even hair loss. What’s the magical number? The weight should of extensions not be more than 200 grams, it can vary from 50 grams to 200 grams. There is no real damage that we count as damage, which means you won’t suffer from hair loss or thinner hair.
Damage from hair extensions can also occur when someone is trying to apply extensions by themselves. Whenever someone is not confident in installing any extension type at home, should contact a professional. DIY installation can go wrong when someone doesn’t know what they’re doing! Especially if we’re talking about more complicated methods. If you’re not a professional, or have no experience with those methods, there is a big chance that you’ll do something wrong and end up damaging the extensions or your natural strands. Yet again, Extensions are blamed for installation jobs fault.
Biggest reason why some girls end up damaging their hair is avoiding hair maintenance or not doing it properly. Extensions have some maintenance requirements that should be followed in order to keep them and your natural strands healthy and beautiful. This may sound extreme to you, but those who ignore those rules might end up with a mess. Not all girls take the maintenance advice seriously and end up causing harm to their locks, if you don’t brush your hair, your natural strands and the extensions will get all tangled up, and there will be no other way to remove the extensions than by forcefully pulling them out, or even worse, cutting the hair.
Another thing to consider is sleeping with extensions, before you go to bed with your new hair, first check if you can sleep with your hair extension type. Check if you don’t feel comfortable wearing them and are getting headaches. You should give a few more minutes adjusting them and the issue recedes. Another thing to consider is avoiding sleeping with clip-in extensions. They are not permanent and you should not sleep with them. Doing so can cause harm to your extensions as well as to your hair. That’s by design.
