WHAT IS SYNTHETIC HAIR?

Synthetic hair are made of various different materials and contain no human hair. Synthetic hair comes in weave (weft) and single strands (bulk) for braids.

Hair extensions technology has advanced to a great extent, synthetic hair in particular have seen a fair amount of growth. Today, it becomes difficult to find the difference between synthetic hair and human hair especially if it’s a high quality synthetic hair.  This is a man-made hair which has fibers built in it so that to preserve the volume, waves and hair curls. But it is difficult to color, and the worst part is, they can’t be restyled, they have to be used just the way they are. But they also have a big advantage that they are normally inexpensive. 

Synthetic hair, is often made from low-grade acrylic, polyfilament and polyester, which is heated and strung into strands to make individual hair fibers. The strands are then laced or tied into extensions and hairpieces. Their goal is to look like real hair. These fibers go through a lot of mechanical processing and around 10-15 different chemical.

One main reason why girls prefer synthetic hair over human hair is the price. Compared to human hair, synthetic hair are generally cheap. If you have a lower budget and just have to wear the extension for a short period of time, say one night of clubbing, then synthetic hair extensions are the best choice.

Synthetic hair extensions are not made to last, their life expectancy is not very promising, you’ll be lucky if you’re able to wear them for more than 3 months.

Treatment

Synthetic hair clip-in extensions are very low maintenance; if you’re not using any products on them, like hairspray, they can be washed once a month. Just pour them in a bowl of cold water and clean them with a synthetic safe shampoo. It is advisable not to use hot tools on your extensions to make them last long.

Durability

The average life span of synthetic hair extensions is somewhere between 2-3 months if they are worn regularly with styling, it all depends on how to take care, if they are not styled they can last up to 6 months.

Styling

They can be styled, but if you want them to last long, you should use hot tools less often, and on a lower heat setting.

Treatment

Maintain them just like your natural hair, wash your dreadlocks only 1-2 times a week, and however wash your scalp more than once a week. Only use residue-free shampoo on your dreadlocks.

Durability

It is advisable not to leave a set of dreadlocks for more than 3 months.

Styling

Never use heating tools on synthetic dreadlocks, the dreads will melt, as they are made of plastic, also don’t use hair colors.
